Aprilia has unveiled a new SXR 160 maxi-scooter at the Auto Expo 2020. It will get the new BS6 160cc and will be launched in the third quarter of 2020
Piaggio is bringing in a new maxi scooter which they unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 and its called the SXR 160. Maxi scooters are usually meant for touring because of their bulky body, dedicated footrest and longer and comfortable seats.
The Aprilia SXR 160 gets a tall windscreen, the unusual large front apron and split LED headlamp design. From the side, it gets the typical maxi design, with a weird-looking smaller rear portion. Further, the scooter gets alloy wheels and LED tail lamps as well. It comes pretty well equipped too with a fully digital instrument cluster, full LED headlamps, a long seat for comfortable touring and 5-spoke 12-inch wheels.
The new Aprilia SXR 160 will be using a 160cc engine. It will also be available with a 125cc engine in the future. The 160cc motor produces 11 bhp and 11.6 Nm of torque. That is 1 PS more than the BS4 version. Also, it gets fuel injection system as standard fitment now, which will also improve fuel efficiency. The 125cc engine produces around 10bhp of power and comes with fuel injection as well.
For suspension, the scooter gets telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the back. The setup is purely focused on the comfort of the rider and pillion. Braking is handled by disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the back, with single-channel ABS as standard. It will available in red, blue, white and black colors.

Aprilia will be launching the SXR 160 in India in Q3 of 2020 at around the festive season. Bookings for the maxi scooter will also begin around the same time. We are expecting it to come at an asking price of around Rs 1.2 Lakhs (ex-showroom). As of now, there are no maxi-scooters in that range. Suzuki has the Burgman Street which is a semi-maxi scooter, priced around Rs 70,000 (ex-showroom).
