MG is focusing heavily on NEVs (New Energy Vehicles) globally, as well as in India
JSW MG Motor India has had a change of leadership with Anurag Mehrotra being the new Managing Director of the company. For the unversed, Anurag has held top positions in some of the most prominent carmakers in India previously. This includes the position of Vice President of Strategy & International Business at Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles and President & Managing Director at Ford India. Clearly, the man knows a thing or two about expanding a brand and strategically boosting sales.
MG Motor Appoints Ex-Ford President as its New MD in India
As per the official press release by JSW MG Motor India, Anurag will drive overall strategic growth initiatives and strengthen the company’s four brand pillars: diversity, experience, innovation and community. Note that he has replaced Rajeev Chaba as the new MD. Nevertheless, Rajeev will continue to advise management and shareholders as a member of the Joint Steering Committee. The entire team is clearly focusing on the growth in vehicles of all segments MG operates in including EVs.
Speaking on this occasion, Yu De, Assistant to SAIC President and Head of International Operation, SAIC Motor, said, “We are grateful to Rajeev for his exceptional leadership in building the MG brand in India. Anuragโs diverse experience, and a deep understanding of domestic and international market dynamics, will be critical in taking this journey to the next level.” Furthermore, Parth Jindal, Director, JSW MG Motor India, remarked, “We are at an inflexion point in our NEV journey and are ready to accelerate into a new era with an exciting product pipeline. We are thankful to Rajeev for his invaluable contribution to the brand and delighted to welcome Anurag to JSW MG Motor India. His deep understanding of the Indian market and his strategic vision for New Energy Vehicles align perfectly with our focus on sustainable mobility.”
My View
JSW MG Motor India has been having a great time on the sales charts, especially for its electric vehicles. In recent months after the arrival of the Windsor EV, people have really appreciated the battery renting approach where they don’t need to pay the hefty price of the EV battery up front. Rather, they are required to pay a monthly rent for the battery which depends on the usage. Hence, the initial cost has come down significantly. That has propelled the fence sitters to take the plunge. Let us keep an eye out for how the new management makes the brand evolve.
