Anand Mahindra shares an emotional tweet about the legendary Premier Padmini taxi of Mumbai. He is always up-to-date with all that is happening across the globe, particularly with regard to automobiles. His Twitter following runs around 10 million. The reason for that is quite simple. He always presents his honest opinions about various matters with a hint of humour. That makes him one of the most followed Indian businessmen on the micro-blogging platform. Let us take a look at the details of what he has to say about the iconic Kaali-Peeli taxis of Mumbai.

The transport department is phasing out taxis which are over 20 years old. You might remember the trademark double-decker buses of Mumbai being discontinued just a couple of months ago. The age limit for those was 15 years. As Mumbaikars embrace modern modes of transportation, these iconic Black and Yellow taxis will no longer ply on the Mumbai roads from October 31, 2023. Needless to say, these two modes of transportation have a huge place in the hearts of the residents of the city for decades now.

Feeling the same emotion, Anand Mahindra tweeted, “From today, the iconic Premier Padmini Taxi vanishes from Mumbai’s roads. They were clunkers, uncomfortable, unreliable, noisy. Not much baggage capacity either. But for people of my vintage, they carried tons of memories. And they did their job of getting us from point A to point B. Goodbye and alvida, kaali-peeli taxis. Thank you for the good times.” That is a clear indication of how emotional he is feeling about this entire matter. In all honesty, a lot of Mumbai people are feeling this way, particularly the people belonging to the generations of the millennials and prior to that.

What We Think
It is easy to understand the emotions the city must be going through. There will hardly be any resident who has not had a memory of either this Kaali-Peeli taxi or the double-decker bus. But all good things must come to an end. If only we let go of the old, is there enough room for the new. That is exactly what people must keep in mind. As times change, they will leave a lot of people nostalgic. But that also liberates room for new memories. That is the positive spirit with which we must approach any new change.
