The Tata Nexon Hyperdrive Self-Shift Gears or the Nexon with an automatic gearbox is now available in the mid-spec, XM variant as well. Both the petrol as well as the diesel derivatives get this new XMA variant added to their respective line-ups. With this, the price for the base automatic variant of the Nexon starts at INR 7.50 lakh for the petrol and INR 8.53 lakh for the diesel variant. Earlier, this automated manual gearbox was available on the top-spec XZ+ trim of the Nexon. As a result, now this sub-compact SUV has two automatic variants each for its petrol and diesel derivatives, the XMA and the XZA+.
Not too long ago, Tata Motors had introduced the Nexon with a 6-speed AMT gearbox based on the 6-speed manual unit with which the SUV was launched in India last year. Up until now, if one had to buy an automatic Nexon, he or she had to spend up to INR 9.41 Lakh for the petrol and INR 10.83 lakh for the diesel version. With Maruti launching the Brezza with its AGS gearbox and that too in multiple variants, the Nexon looked as a costlier alternative for those who were looking to buy an automatic utility vehicle for daily use and were ready to compromise on some of the features.

The XMA variant of the Nexon is no slouch when it comes to its equipment list. Yes, it does miss out on features like projector headlamps and the fabulous 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, but you still get the basic equipment list. Not only this but as the Nexon comes as standard with ABS with EBD and dual airbags as standard, the one buying the Xm variant has nothing to worry about. Additionally, the XM variant comes with reverse parking sensors as well.
Coming to the engine specs, the petrol derivative of the Nexon AMT is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged unit. While the diesel derivative comes with the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder oil-burner.
