Maruti is about to launch the all-new Swift in India with a new powertrain and aesthetic alterations.
The 4th generation all-new Maruti Swift will be the longest it has ever been. I have covered the launch of the new Swift in many international markets already. This includes Japan, the UK, Ireland, France and Germany. Hence, we have a fair idea of what the vehicle will look like. The overall design will be inspired by the current-gen model rather than being revolutionary. Let us take a look at the details of the new Swift here.

All-New Maruti Swift to be the Longest Ever
As per various media reviews in the aforementioned markets, the dimensions of the Swift become clear. The upcoming model will bear a length of 3,860 mm. This is 20 mm longer than the outgoing 3rd generation model (2016 – 2024) which measured 3,840 mm. Interestingly, the 2nd generation version (2010 – 2017) was even longer than the third-gen version at 3,850 mm. This shows a true evolution was from the 1st generation avatar (2005 – 2010) where the hatchback measured 3,695 mm. Hence, one could argue that the changes, in terms of dimensions, after the first generation have been rather subtle. However, the interior space on the new Swift will likely remain similar to the current model.
Maruti Suzuki Swift | Overall Length |
First Generation – 2004 | 3,695 mm |
Second Generation – 2010 | 3,850 mm |
Third Generation – 2017 | 3,840 mm |
Fourth Generation – 2023 | 3,860 mm |

One area which will experience a huge change will be what powers the Swift. Under its hood, we will find a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z Series mill which will replace the existing 1.2-litre 4-cylinder K Series engine. Suzuki claims that the new engine is 8% more fuel efficient than the outgoing powertrain. That gives us an indication that this new engine will further play to the strength of Maruti Suzuki by offering attractive mileage figures. More details will be revealed closer to the launch.

Author’s Note
Maruti Swift is one of the highest-selling vehicles in India in the last 19 years of its existence. I am particularly impressed by the demand it commands even today. To Maruti’s credit, it has kept the Swift updated and fresh all these years with minor customizations. Apart from that, the dense sales and service network of Maruti Suzuki, low running and maintenance costs, and high mileage are some of the main reasons why people opt for Maruti cars. I am thrilled to witness how the potential customers react to the new Swift which will launch in the coming weeks.
