New reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki, with help from Toyota, is planning for a new C-Segment MPV. It is likely to be launched in India by 2023.
Maruti Suzuki has its presence in almost every budget segment right from entry-level hatchbacks to executive sedans, MPV and sub-compact SUVs. Just two segments left to cover include C-Segment SUV and MPV.
C-Segment MPV is basically the Toyota Innova Crysta segment and actually, there are no cars left in that class. Innova has its monopoly in this segment, which Maruti will take on from 2023. Definitely, this MPV will be costlier than the XL6.
Maruti has also confirmed that the new MPV will be priced between Rs 10 Lakhs to Rs 20 Lakhs. This will be a completely new segment for Maruti as its costliest car is up to Rs 13 Lakhs that includes the S-Cross, XL6 and Ciaz.

The MPV will be manufactured at Toyota’s Bidadi, Karnataka plant. Unlike the scenario with Glanza and Baleno, the new Maruti MPV will be distinctly styled when compared to the Toyota Innova Crysta.
Further details have not been mentioned but Maruti could also use Innova’s engines for its new MPV. Innova uses three engines – a 2.4 Litre turbo-diesel diesel, a 2.8 Litre turbo-diesel and a 2.7-litre petrol unit. All the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed AT gearbox.
The demand for utility vehicles is increasing at an alarming speed as more and more people want SUVs, MPVs and big cars. If noticed, the demand for sub-compact SUVs and mid-size SUVs has increased quickly over the past two years.

Meanwhile, Maruti is also planning a mid-size SUV to take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. We are expecting it to be the Grand Vitara which has been spied testing in India. Along with Maruti, Toyota will also introduce its mid-size SUV in India, which will be different than Maruti’s SUV but might use the same platform and engines.
