Hero MotoCorp has dropped a teaser of the Euro-5 complaint Xtreme 200R and Glamour for the EICMA 2019 which makes them BS-6 complaint for India.
Hero MotoCorp has decided to give the 2020 Auto Expo a miss but they sure are going to make their presence felt at the EICMA 2019. Hero has dropped a teaser of two of its motorcycles in Euro-5 complaint form ahead of their official unveil at the EICMA in a few days time. The two motorcycles would naturally be BS-6 compliant as well and they are the Hero Xtreme 200R which is sold as the Hunk 200R in international markets and the Glamour, which is sold as the Ignitor 125 in international markets.
The India-spec Xtreme 200R is currently carburetted, but the Euro-5 compliant Hunk 200R had to be given a fuel injection system to make it compliant with the emission norms. This means that when Hero launches the BS-6 compliant Xtreme 200R in India. that too will be fuel injected. Meanwhile, Ignitor 125 – which is essentially the Glamour in India – does not get a fuel injection system but continues with a carburettor but gets Hero’s i3S stop-start technology.
Hero has not equipped any of its fuel-injected models with the i3S technology yet and there are a few reasons for that. First, the stop start system needs to be much more sophisticated to work with a fuel injection system, with the fuel pump requiring priming before the engine is turned on each time, also sapping charge from the battery. Also, this being a price-sensitive segment, having both the i3S system and the fuel injection system would have shot the prices significantly.

To further meet the emission norms, Hero has also equipped the motorcycles with a three-way catalytic converter. At present, the Euro-4/BS-4 spec carburetted Xtreme 200R produces 18.4PS of power and 17.1Nm of peak torque. The Euro-6/BS-6 complaint motorcycles with the fuel injection system will produce slightly less numbers though.

The Ignitor 125, meanwhile, produces 11.86PS, which is 0.17PS more than the India-spec FI version. Since Euro5 emission norms are very close to the BS6 norms that are coming into effect in India next year, we can expect these changes to translate into Hero’s lineup here as well. Stay tuned for more updates.
