In the face of rising competition, Tata Motors could introduce a new range topping XZ+ trim of the Harrier with panoramic sunroof and 18-inch wheels.
The mid-size SUV segment has seen a lot of action over the course of the year. When Tata launched the Harrier earlier this year, it really wowed Indians on many levels. However, as more competition arrived over the year from MG Motors and Kia, the Harrier dwindled from its mark. Since then, Tata has had made several efforts to revive the Harrier with a dual-tone color scheme, an exclusive Dark Edition, sunroof as an official accessory and even introduced an optional five year/unlimited kilometer warranty for the SUV.
Now however, there are some new spy shots of a new top-spec Tata Harrier that seems to address a lot of niggles there had been with this mid-size SUV. This new range-topping trim of the Harrier will likely be called the XZ+ trim and as you can see from the images, it will come with a large, factory-fitted panoramic sunroof. Now, Tata already offers a sunroof on the Harrier as an accessory but some find it too small and honestly, an asking price of Rs 95,100 (excluding labour charges) for just a sunroof is quite a lot.
With this new panoramic unit, the Harrier will certainly attract a lot more buyers, something the Hector already comes with and has been a strong selling point for it too. The other most notable change are the new alloy wheels. The Harrier currently comes with 17-inch wheels and considering the rather big proportions of the Harrier, the wheels look a tad bit small and that too with a very plain design. The ones on the test mule is however seen wearing 18-inch wheels shod in lower-profile 235/60-section Bridgestone Ecopia tyres. Now that will definitely lift the look of the Harrier considerably.

The price of this new XZ+ trim of the Harrier is expected to be notably higher than the most expensive Harrier XZ variant you can buy today, which is priced at Rs 16.76 lakh (ex-showroom). To justify the premium that Tata would demand for this new range-topping variant, they might throw in some more features such as tyre pressure monitoring system and the likes.

Meanwhile, the Harrier is due an entire range of new updates that would be arriving on it soon. The BS-VI compliant version of Harrier’s 2.0L, diesel engine is already under works and with this update, it will be more powerful, producing around 170 bhp. For the first time, the Harrier will also receive 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox is in the pipeline as well. That’s not all, as there’s even a seven seater version of the Harrier coming next year which will be known as the Buzzard.
