Skoda will replace the Rapid sedan in India by 2021 with a completely new model. The new sedan is likely to have 90-95% of localization, for cost control.
Skoda is planning to make another move for the C-segment sedan class, which includes Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Honda City. Looking at the monthly sales, Rapid is amongst the lowest-performing ones.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Skoda officials have confirmed to Autocar that one of the models planned for India includes a new Skoda sedan. The manufacturer is going to launch a mid-size SUV in India first, most likely in 2020.
Skoda Rapid has not received any big update since its launch in 2011. There have been minor facelifts and some feature additions. Skoda plans to replace the ageing sedan with a completely new model.

Skoda further stated that they are focusing on 90-95% of localization for the new sedan, which will help them keep the price competitive. This will also keep the maintenance costs of the sedan down.
The new sedan will be based on the MQB AO IN platform, which will also sit underneath the upcoming Volkswagen models. Along with the sedan, the mid-size SUV might also use the same platform.
As Volkswagen and Skoda both have confirmed that they would not launch diesel cars post BS-6 norms, the new sedan might only get a 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol engine doing the duty. The engine specs are likely to be around 110-120 BHP.

Other than that, the new Skoda sedan will be differentiated from Volkswagen Vento, which is also set to get a new generation update. The engine options, though, are likely to remain the same.
Meanwhile, Skoda and Volkswagen have also confirmed that they will be showcasing their new mid-size SUVs at the 2020 Auto Expo. Both will enter the competition that includes Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, MG hector, Kia Seltos and Nissan Kicks.
