The new Audi A7 Plug-in hybrid gets 357 bhp of combined power output from the engine and electric motor and it can travel in electric power alone for up to 40 km.
The Audi A7 has always stood out in a slew of sedans from Audi and other manufacturers as well. The sportback design and the distinctive rear end has always turned heads and it is rightly a sleeper performance car. After a series of camouflaged spy shots doing rounds on the internet, we knew a new Audi A7 is arriving soon. And now, it has finally been unveiled. The design has always been the A7’s distinguishing factor and while the new car still looks sexy, let’s talk of what’s under the hood first because the Audi A7 now comes as plug-in hybrid too.
The 2020 Audi A7 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) uses a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine which is coupled with an electric motor. The combustion engine puts out 245 bhp while the electric motor can deliver an additional 139 bhp, taking the total output to 357 bhp. The peak torque is rated at 369 Nm and the power is send to all-four wheels through a seven-speed S Tronic transmission.
The Audi A7 plug-in hybrid can sprint from 0-100 kph in just 5.7 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 kph. As for the batteries, it has been placed under the trunk area which Audi say has not compromised with the cargo space in the boot. The electric battery can store 14.1 kWh of power and the A7 can go up to 40 km using only electric power only at a speed of up to 135 kmph.
The A7 plug-in hybrid comes equipped with an e-Quattro system which also comes with three drive modes. There’s a dedicated EV mode which is also the default mode. The Hybrid mode uses both engine and electric motor power and then there is also a battery mode which preserves the electric power in the battery. The battery can be fully charged in 2.5 hours using a three phase socket of 400 volts. However, a 230 volt socket will do the job in seven hours.

Now finally addressing the looks, the Audi A7 plug-in hybrid adopts the latest Audi family design. The face looks wider with the large hexagonal grille up front and the new headlamp cluster gets the latest LED Matrix detailings. The gaping air dams on the front bumpers give an aggressive look to the face, affirming its sporty credentials. At the rear, it features new LED tail lamps joined by a illuminate LED strip.

However, the real beauty of the A7 has always been its profile and it still looks as amazing. A typical four door sportback design with frameless windows, coupe line falling over the tail and 19-inch alloy wheels, all come together to work just brilliantly. On the inside, the new A7 gets the new-gen Audi interiors in the form of the dual-screen setup on the dashboard and Audi Virtual cockpit system. A much needed evolution of an ageing yet beautiful car.
