Fresh reports suggest that Hyundai is launching a new MPV in India by 2021, which will squarely go against the Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo.
Maruti Ertiga is the most affordable MPV in India right now, starting off at around Rs 7.5 Lakhs (ex-showroom). It is also the best-selling MPV in India, as it is the only one in this price range.
To take on the likes of Ertiga, Hyundai is reportedly working on a new car for India, which will be an MPV. It is likely to be launched by 2021 and it will be a seven-seater MPV, like the Ertiga.
The new Hyundai MPV will be based on the platform of the Venue, thus keeping the costs in check. The engine specifications and features of the new MPV are likely to remain the same as that of the Venue.

As seen in the recent trends, the MPV segment is quite popular in India, mainly because of the Ertiga and Innova Crysta. Both come in a different price range and are very popular in their individual price ranges.
The new MPV from Hyundai will get the 1.2 Litre petrol from the Venue and the new 1.5 Litre diesel engine, which will come on Hyundai models from next year. The current 1.4 Litre diesel engine on the Venue will soon be discontinued.
Hyundai has a clear advantage over Maruti for this segment, as the latter is now going to discontinue its diesel variants. So you would be getting the Maruti Ertiga petrol only, post-April 2020.
