Renault Nissan are together working on a couple of new models targeted for India and to transform these plans into physical products they have a facility in Oragadam, Chennai. Renault in a venture with Citroen is already working on their new facility at Sanand Gujarat which is expected to get completed soon.
Since the small car market has always had its own unique charm, even Renault could not resist itself from considering the same more seriously and it is being said that Renault along with Nissan is planning to build a new small car for emerging markets. For the same and as a part of its small car strategy, the manufacturer is in talks with Gujarat land to acquire a piece of land near Vadodara.

The small car strategy is the best so far and many successful brands have adopted the same. And this time its Renault’s turn to develop something new and profitable for the Indian market and other emerging markets as well.
On the condition of anonymity two of the Gujarat govt. officials have spoken. One of the official said, “The company held a closed-door meeting with top government officials a couple of weeks back,”. “They are exploring possibilities of setting up a plant here.” he said.
According to the official, the company is seeking land near Vadodara as the exports will also be important and since the ports are near Vadodara, it will definitely facilitate exports to nearby markets.
Renault wishes to acquire at least 100 acres of land and will invest Rs.2000 crore in the first phase. In total, including all the phases, Rs. 10,335 crore of investment will go into the project as an outcome of which the company will roll out 400,000 units per annum from the facility.
Marc Nassif, managing director of Renault India, said “It’s very, very premature. It is not decided yet,” However, we are bullish on the Indian market.”
I believe its a great move from the manufacturer and such initiative will definitely be beneficial for both the brand as well as the customers here.
