Jeep launched the new-gen Wrangler here in India just last week and it comes with a host of updates. We have compiled all the highlights of the new Jeep Wrangler for you!
Jeep launched the new-gen Wrangler here in India last week. The new Wrangler comes in a five-door guise and in a single trim called the Sahara here in India. The new Jeep Wrangler comes with improved off-roading capabilities, better looks and far premium interiors. So we thought of compiling you all the highlights about the 2019 Jeep Wrangler.
Will it turn heads?
It surely will. The new Wrangler retains the iconic stance and overall shape that it had always had but it comes with modern touches now. It gets a new, slightly tweaked seven-slat grille and new LED-equipped round headlamps. The bumpers and wheel arches have been redesigned. There are new wheels and a new tail lamp at the rear as well. Its also very configurable in a number of unique ways in how you can set up the roof, remove the quarter panels, the doors, and tilt down the windscreen frame. The designs remains largely similar but much more contemporary and smarter.
Is the Cabin still the Achilles’ heel?
This is where the Jeep Wrangler has faced the most criticism. The changes are the most comprehensive on the inside. It still retains the upright stance on the inside but has been redesigned from scratch and it looks fresh and contemporary. The geometric, retro-themed styling on the inside works really well and its much more feature equipped now including a touchscreen infotainment system and better ergonomics. The quality of materials have also improved and the decent level of technology in the car feels like a blessing.
What’s under the hood?
As for the engines available here in India, the new Jeep Wrangler will use a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that produces 270hp and 400Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and power is sent to all four wheels. That’s the only engine on offer, at least for now and before you ask, no, there’s no diesel this time. The petrol engine has been released in BS-IV guise but it will be updated to be BS-VI compliant closer to the BS-VI emission norms deadline.

And what about when there are no roads?
The greatest highlights of a Wrangler has always been its off-roading. True to being an off-roading icon like it always has been, the Jeep Wrangler gets several off-road hardware for the same. It has been re-engineered from grounds up. It continues with a ladder frame chassis but it is much lighter than before. The Wrangler has also grown in length and while most of the body of the Wrangler uses high-strength steel, it has shed some weight by using aluminum in the hood, doors, and windshield frame and magnesium for the tail gate. The 2020 Jeep Wrangler comes with improved approach and departure angles, 277mm of ground clearance, electric front- and rear-axle locks, a limited-slip differential and up to 30 inches of water wading ability.

Pricing and Competition
The single Sahara trim of the Wrangler has been priced at Rs. 63.94 lakhs, ex-showroom, pan India. It will come to country via the CBU route just like the previous-gen Wrangler and as a result invites some heavy import taxes. There is no direct competitor for the Jeep Wrangler in India. It remains a standalone car in its segment and remains an icon at that!
