After receiving overwhelming responses for the Rapid Rider Edition, Skoda might consider making this limited edition model as a regular variant.
Last month, Skoda launched a limited edition of the Rapid sedan called the Rapid Rider Edition for a price of Rs. 6.99 lakh, ex-showroom. It was the cheapest Rapid one could buy but it was only a limited edition version. Reportedly, Skoda has received overwhelming responses for the limited edition model.
About 1 lakh cheaper than the entry-level Rapid, the Rider edition seems to have struck the right chords for the brand. The Rider Edition is based on the base-spec Active petrol manual variant but it still comes with many convenient features such as 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, remote central locking, front and rear power windows, manual air conditioner and electrically adjustable ORVMs.
Considering the overwhelming responses for the Rapid Rider Edition, Skoda is now thinking to make it a regular offering, thus reducing the entry point of the Rapid sedan and also pricing it very closely to most sub-4m sedans. In an interview with Zigwheels, Zac Hollis, Director of Sales and Marketing, Skoda India said, “We have received an overwhelming response for the limited edition Rapid Rider Edition and are working tirelessly towards facilitating our customers’ requests. We will certainly explore the option of making it a regular offering in the future.”

The Rapid Rider Edition mainly gets some blacked out design elements in the base Active variant to make it look more sporty. It gets an all-black grille, blacked-out B-pillars, trunk lip and black door decals. It comes in Candy White and Carbon Steel exterior paint options but continues with the same 15-inch wheels as in the Active variant.

Inspite of being considerably cheaper, the Rider Edition does not come skimmed of features. It comes with rear parking sensors, anti-glare interior rearview mirror, dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), rear windscreen defogger with timer, height-adjustable front three-point seatbelts, rough road package and an engine immobilizer with a floating code system. The Rider Edition is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine produces 105 bhp and 153 Nm of torque.
