In just its first month, the MG Hector has emerged as the best selling mid-size SUV in the segment for July with sales displacing the Tata Harrier from the top position.
The MG Motors has had an absolutely sensational start in the Indian market with the Hector. It is already sold out for 2019 and just in the first month of its launch in July, the MG Hector has started topping the sales charts. The Tata Harrier had been the best selling SUV in the segment till June but now the Hector has displaced the Harrier to take the top position.
MG Motors sold 1,508 units of the Hector in the month of July, thus earning the top spot. Interestingly, the Tata Harrier has slipped to the third position in terms of sales for July. Tata sold only 740 units of the Harrier which has been the lowest number it has recorded since its launch in January. The Harrier also recorded the highest month-on-month decline in sales, from being the best selling SUV in June to slipping to number 3 position in July.
The car which has come in number 2 position in sales for July is the Mahindra XUV500. The XUV500 has remained fairly unaffected by the Hector, recording consistent sales from June to July. The Jeep Compass, however, also seems to be quite affected by the launch of the Hector. The Compass sold 791 units in June whereas in July, they only sold 509 units which is the lowest in the segment and also the lowest sales Jeep has ever recorded for the Compass since its launch in 2017.

The Hector is manufactured at MG Motor’s plant in Halol, Gujarat and it has a production capacity of 2,000 units in a month. Going by the number, the bookings have already crosses the production capacity for atleast a year and the bookings started having unreasonable waiting periods on them.

With such overwhelming responses, MG Motors have announced that they are going to increase the production capacity of their plant to 3,000 units per month and that should happen from September. Once the production capacity increases, MG Motors will again resume bookings for the Hector. Considering the level of equipment and features the MG Hector offers, its no surprise that it has come out on top for July sales in the segment. We can’t wait to see how the market shapes up once the Kia Seltos has been launched.
