The Hero Splendor family beats the Honda Activa range of scooters in sales to claim top position. These two two-wheelers have for long been at loggerheads with each other.
The competition in the Indian two-wheeler segment is quite neck and neck with many players like Hero, Bajaj, Honda and TVS fighting for the top sales charts. At the peak however, the competition has always been in between the Hero Spledor family and the Honda Activa family. For long, the Activa has been the best-selling two-wheeler in the country but now, the Hero Splendor has taken that spot from the Activa.
With the commuter class of motorcycles being the most popular in India, the Hero Splendor family had been consistently gaining over the Honda Activa range of scooters throughout the entire first half of the year. In June, the Hero Splendor family claimed the spot of being the best-selling two-wheeler in the country by selling 2,42,743 units; just 6,000 units more than what the Honda Activa sold for June, 2019.
The Hero Splendor family has been doing consistently well over the Honda Activa in all the preceding months of this year, from January to June. In this time period, the Splendor family of motorcycles sold 13,80,306 units compared to 12,33,216 units of the Honda Activa that were sold in the same time. It was in January when the Splendor started taking a definitive lead over the Activa, with the peak achieved in March when the Splendor sold 98,000 units more than the Activa.

Since then, the Honda Activa has recovered some ground, closing the gap to about 6,000 units for June. In fact, the Honda Activa has sold the most units in June itself, steadily recovering ground. In May-end, the company launched the Activa 5G Limited Edition and the Activa 5G Limited Edition DLX. The company is gearing up heavily for the BS6 era and recently revealed its BS6-compliant, fuel-injected Activa 125.

Looking further at the top 10 best-selling two-wheelers in the country for June, the third spot is taken by yet another Hero, the Hero HF Deluxe, which sold 1,93,194. The forth place is taken by Honda CB Shine with 84,871 units sold and the CB Shine is also the best selling 125 cc motorcycle in the country. The Bajaj Pulsar takes the fifth spot with 83,008 units sold and the rest of the leaderboard is taken up by the Hero Glamour, Bajaj Platina, TVS Jupiter, Hero Passion and the TVS XL Super taking the last spot to complete the table.
