The India launch of the facelifted BMW 7 series happened today and it has a starting price of Rs. 1.22 Crores and goes all the way to Rs. 2.42 crores for the M760Li variant.
BMW has launched their flagship new 7-series luxury sedan in India at a price of Rs. 1.22 crores and goes up to Rs. 2.42 crores. This India launch is however only a mid-life facelift of the BMW 7-series currently on sale in country. The changes are still quite significant, both in terms of styling and powertrains. The BMW 7-series takes on the likes of the Mercedes S-Class and the Audi A8L. We will only be getting the long wheelbase version of the 7-series here in India. Let’s take a better look at this new BMW 7-series.
Just at first glance itself, the face looks completely different from before. The most noticeable thing is of course the new grille, which BMW say is 40% larger than before and is also more upright and protruding. It sure dominates the look of this new 7-series. The headlamps have also got slimmer and they now come with BMW’s laser light technology. The LED signature DRLs also have gone slimmer and seem to have been inspired from the latest 3-series. The bumpers have been completely redesigned for a far more elegant look with larger air intakes and the bonnet gets some new sculpts as well.
At the rear, the changes are more subtle. The LED tail lamps have new detailing and there are new surrounds around the exhausts. As for the M Sport variants, it get aggressive bumpers on the front and rear with the V12 getting quad-exhaust setup finished in chrome. Also, the hockey stick like chrome trim that runs the length of the car is a larger and more upright than before.
Stepping inside, the changes are not so significant. It carries the same interior design from the pre-facelift model with some update in equipment and interior trims. We would have liked to see the latest interior from BMW that comes in the 3-series. It gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch Control Display on the centre. There is a new wood veneer on the dashboard and new leather upholstery along with a new steering wheel as well.
The new BMW 7-series gets several new driver assistance features and a Bowers and Wilkins Diamond 3D surround system as an optional feature. But the 7-series is all about its back seat and it comes sumptuously loaded there. The entertainment screens at the back of the front seats are now 10.2-inches and you have all the niceties that you have seen previously in the 7-series. BMW has however improved the sound proofing around the rear wheel arches, B-pillars and seatbelt outlet covers in the rear, and for the side windows and rear window to make your ride more luxurious.
Coming to the heart of the new BMW 7-series, the India launch also sees some updates to the powertrains. Firstly, there’s the familiar 3.0-litre, in-line six-cylinder diesel engine that produces 265 bhp. Then there’s the 3.0-litre, in-line six-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 340 bhp. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

What’s new is a plug-in hybrid variant of the 7-series called the 740Le. It is powered by in-line, six-cylinder petrol engine that makes 286hp and 450Nm of peak. It is combined with an electric motor that makes 113hp and 265Nm of peak torque, thus for a total output of 394hp and 600Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to all-four wheels via BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system. The range topping M760Li xDrive is powered by a massive 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 petrol engine, good for 585hp and 850Nm of torque. Power is sent to all-four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, with BMW claiming a 0-100kph time of just 3.8 seconds.

The new BMW 7-series can be had in three trims – Design Pure Excellence (DPE), Design Pure Excellence Signature and M Sport. With the India launch of the new 7-series, the base 730Ld DPE costs Rs 1.22 crore. The base petrol 740Li DPE Signature costs Rs 1.34 crore while the plug-in hybrid 745Le xDrive costs Rs 1.65 crore. The range topping M760Li xDrive costs a fortune at Rs. 2.42 crores. All prices are ex-showroom.
