Recent invites from Bajaj Auto suggests that the two-wheeler manufacturer is going to enter the electric vehicle market, with a new scooter.
Bajaj is going to launch its first electric scooter in India on 16th October. It will come under the Urbanite brand, which will be carved out as a sub-brand of Bajaj, purely for electric two-wheelers.
Recently, a test mule has been spotted in Pune, near Bajaj’s plant. From this, we can see that it shares a minor resemblance to the legendary Chetak scooter. Of course, there were strong rumours suggesting that Bajaj might bring the Chetak back but in a modern way.
Although the rear portion is camouflaged, it seems to get a fresh design of tail lights. It also gets a large single-piece grab rail. Test mules in the earlier spy shots did not come with an exhaust, indicating that an electric scooter is being tested.

The earlier spy shots also suggested that it gets a hexagonal-shaped retro headlamp and the turn indicators on the apron. Moreover, it will carry a retro look just like the Vespa scooters.
It gets disc brakes at the front, which is likely to come as an option with CBS as standard fitment. For suspension, it is likely to use a single-sided spring at the front with anti-dive function. At the back, it will likely get the swing-arm suspension.
Reports suggest that the Bajaj Urbanite electric scooter will be there, but there will be a fuel-powered one as well. The engine specs are unknown as of now since the 110cc, 125cc and the 150cc scooter segment are all doing well.

We expect Bajaj to price the Urbanite electric scooter for under a Lakh, so that it goes against the likes of Ather 450 and Okinawa i-Praise electric scooters, both priced in a similar range.
