The Kia Grand Carnival will see its India launch as early as the Auto Expo 2020. It will be a halo car for the brand and will be very premium, even more so than the Innova Crysta.
Kia has just unveiled the Seltos in India and it’s launch is due later in August. However, Kia has already drawn up an elaborate plan for India wherein they plan to launch a new car every 6-9 months. The next model to follow the Seltos SUV would be the Kia Grand Carnival MPV. What’s more, we can now confirm that the India launch of the Kia Grand Carnival would be at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The Kia Grand carnival is a premium MPV and though it directly competes with the Toyota Innova Crysta in the Indian market, it will be more premium than the Innova Crsyta. Reportedly, every Kia model that is launched in India would be an all new product or a facelift of an existing model from the international market. As for the Grand Carnival – also sold as the Kia Sedona in some international markets – it was globally introduced in 2015 and is right now in its third-generation. The Kia Grand Carnival is due a facelift anyway, and most likely that facelift will come with the India launch of this premium MPV.
The Grand Carnival will be a halo product for Kia in India and it is expected to be priced around Rs. 25 lakhs. Well, initially it would be brought to the country via the CKD route and then assembled here. However, if Kia finds sufficient demand for the car, they will localise the car and will also be able to utilize their plant to its full potential.

As for its competition against the Toyota Innova Crysta, it will be bigger than the Innova in terms of diemensions and thus will also have more space on the inside. Internationally, the Grand Carnival is sold with seating capacity up to eleven, but in India it will come as a premium seven seater version with captain seats on the second row. It will even have sliding doors for easy access to the second and third rows. It will be absolutely loaded to the brim with technology and might even feature rear entertainment systems. It will be very premium in its build as well.

The Kia Grand Carnival will be powered by a 2.2-litre CRDi diesel engine that churns out 202bhp and 441Nm. The engine will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Internationally, it is also available with a 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine, but that will most likely not make it to our shores. With the India launch of this premium SUV, the Toyota Innova will finally see some worthy competition and we might as well have a new benchmark.
