The Maruti Suzuki Alto had the best sales among the top-10 selling cars in India for June, 2019. In fact, all top-5 cars were Maruti Suzuki cars.
The Indian auto industry is going through one of its toughest times since the beginning of this year. Car sales are at an all-time low across all segments and for every manufacturer. As for the sales report of June, 2019, almost all manufacturers have reported a decline in sales, not being able to match their sales from last year. Amidst all of this, it was the Maruti Suzuki Alto that managed top sales in June.
The Alto has been an all time best-selling car in India for a long time now. However, last month, it was the Maruti Suzuki Swift that managed top sales with 17,039 units sold. The Maruti Suzuki Alto has regained the top spot this month with 18,733 units sold as compared to the Swift’s 16,330 buyers. Interestingly, the Maruti Alto is one of the few cars that has seen an increase in y-o-y sales for June by almost 4%.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire continues to be the best selling sedan in the country with 14,868 units sold in June, 2019. Also, the Baleno and the WagonR continue to be best selling hatchbacks in their respective segments of entry-level hatchback and premium hatchback. In fact, out of the top ten selling cars in June, 2019, top five of them are all Maruti Suzuki cars.

Its interesting to note that all these cars in spite of being the best selling cars in their respective segments have still recorded a decline in sales from what they sold last year. Customer sentiments have been poor due to increased prices and low credit availability. It was thought that the market would recover after the elections, but that did not happen as the high GST rates still remain a problem.

Still, most car manufacturers are positive that the market conditions would improve in the coming months. With the Maruti Suzuki Alto sales for June showing an increment from last year, we can expect that things might just move in the positive direction soon enough.
