Volkswagen has confirmed that it will be an SUV brand in the coming years. Sedans and hatchbacks will also come alongside. As of now, it only has the Tiguan SUV, which is not a popular one in the market.
The new Volkswagen SUV or the T-Roc will enter the highly competitive mid-segment SUV in India. So, expect the prices to stay in the 12-17 Lakhs range, as most of them are priced similarly.
Importantly, Volkswagen can now save up on the homologation process, as the government now allows manufacturers to import vehicles without the certificate. Certificates approved in Europe, Japan and Australia are valid for the Indian market.
As per the new rules, manufacturers are allowed to import 2500 units annually without any additional certificate. Basically, this acts as a litmus test for the companies, if their car can run good in India.

As said earlier, the T-Roc will go against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 and some variants of Jeep Compass. Also, it will find new rivals in MG Hector and Kia Seltos.
