Tata Altroz is expected to launch in the festive season this year and if reports are to be believed it will launch in diesel first followed by petrol.
Tata is improving its portfolio by bringing in new models and set a tough competition to its rivals. By far they have launched Harrier and the car is eating sales of its competitors. Now Tata is planning to bring the Altroz which will sit in the premium hatchback segment and will be offered in both petrol and diesel spec.
Earlier reports suggested that Tata will launch the diesel engine of Altroz first followed by petrol with both manual and automatic gearbox. Now the new sources are to be believed then the Altroz will debut in the manual transmission first and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox will join later.
Once launched, Tata Altroz will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Toyota Glanza, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz. Mind you, all these cars come with a CVT gearbox except for Polo which sees a 7-speed DSG.

Knowing that more and more people are shifting their interests towards the automatic transmission, it’ll seem quite odd if Tata launches the gearbox later. Tata Harrier still comes with a manual transmission and that hinders some buyers who are looking for an automatic gearbox. Although, a 6-speed torque converter unit is expected to be seen on Harrier later this year.
Tata Altroz will borrow the same 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine from the Nexon. However, the power figures will be detuned to 90 bhp and 200 Nm opposed to the 108 bhp and 260 Nm of torque. For the petrol engine, a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated motor will be borrowed from Tata Tiago which makes 84 bhp and 114 Nm of peak torque.
Talking about the design structure of the Tata Altroz, the car features the Impact 2.0 design philosophy seen on the Harrier. The agile grille up front with headlights sweeping on to the sides makes the car a looker. Talking about the side profile it comes with sharp lines and a rising window line. The rear design looks upmarket with glass black portions and multi-layout design.
The interiors of the Altroz gets an all-black treatment with a floating touchscreen infotainment unit. It will get connectivity features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Voice Command. A multi-function steering wheel, 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, keyless entry are some of the features the car may get.

Safety features on board will stick to dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminders, high-speed alert system and ISOFIX child mount seats. Tata may include additional airbags for added safety and that can be an added advantage over its competition.
As far as the pricing goes, Tata Altroz will be priced similar to its rivals. We expect the prices to be in between Rs 5.60 lakh for the base trim and the top end will go up to Rs 8.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
