The 7-seat SUV is based on the Harrier and will get additional 3rd-row seats with added features.
Tata is all set to bring in their highly anticipated 7-seat SUV named, Buzzard, which is an extension to the Harrier. It was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019 with the name Buzzard. However, the name is unlikely to be followed in the Indian market.
The Harrier series range will replace the Hexa following the strict BS6 emission norms. The 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine will be discontinued for the passenger vehicle segment, however, the manufacturer has chosen to upgrade the 2.2L engine to BS6 emission norms but will limit to passenger vehicle segment only.
Rajendra Petkar, chief technology officer, Tata Motors, told Autocar India that “We share a lot of powertrains between the passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, so if one powertrain doesn’t make sense in the passenger car, it would still make sense for the commercial operation. We will upgrade the 2.2-litre diesel to BS6 for some of our commercial vehicles,”.
Furthermore, Tata Motors believes the 2.0-litre diesel engine in its portfolio will serve well for the larger models in its passenger vehicle (PV) portfolio. “For PVs, we currently have the 2.0-litre engine, which is an advanced engine and also well-established in the market. So, we’d like to continue to use that in even the BS6 era,” Petkar said.

What’s different in the 7-seat Tata Harrier is that it will be 63 mm longer and 80 mm taller than the regular 5-seat SUV. The length is increased to accomodate the 3rd-row seats and the coupe line roofline will be replaced with tall boxy stance to suffice enough headroom for third-row passengers.
Coming onto the exteriors, the front fascia will more or less look the same and the main changes will stick to the rear end. Expect tweaked tail lights with a redesigned rear bumper, longer rear quarter glass and the Buzzard will get integrated roof rails.
The interiors of the SUV will pack the same design elements and features. Features like projector headlamps, dual function LED DRL’s with turn indicators, leather upholstery and more. Safety features onboard include 6-airbags, ABS with EBD and ESP, hill hold and hill descent control, reverse parking sensors, seat belt reminders and among others.

Under the hood, 7-seat Harrier will get the same 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine but with more power. It will produce 170 bhp with a peak torque of 350 Nm. In addition to the 6-speed manual gearbox, a 6-speed torque converter unit borrowed from Hyundai will be seen. The same automatic will be introduced in Harrier but at a later stage.
7-seat Tata Harrier will be premium by Rs 1-2 lakh than the current five seat Harrier. It will compete against the likes of Mahindra XUV500, MG Hector, Jeep Compass and Kia Seltos.
