Hyundai Kona EV is all set to be launched in India next week. Hyundai has dropped in a new teaser saying that the EV will charge as fast as our phone. How?
Hyundai’s first electric car and India’s first electric SUV, Kona EV is set to be launched on 9th July. For starters, the manufacturer has allotted 1000 units for our market, which will be re-allotted once the demand increases.
A new teaser saying that Hyundai Kona EV will charge as fast as a phone has come up officially. Our phone charges in an hour and a big EV will be charged in that same time? Seems impossible? We explain.
The Kona EV gets two battery pack in the international market – a 39.2 kWh and a 64 kWh pack. The Indian version will get the smaller pack, which will produce 136 BHP and 395 Nm of peak torque.

Hyundai Kona EV will offer a driving range of 312 kms on a single charge. The 7.2 kW charger will charge the EV in 6.5 hours. Hyundai will also offer a 100 kW DC fast charger, that will charge up to 80% in just 50 minutes.
Just like new phones take an hour to get charged up to 80% with fast chargers. The same time is taken by a Kona EV to be charged. This will encourage more people to buy EVs.
Features onboard will include a 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, real-time traffic, adaptive cruise control, satellite navigation, an 8-speaker KRELL audio system with a subwoofer and heated and ventilated seats.

The EV has already been spied testing in Delhi, without any camouflage. Kona follows a crossover-type shape and will have dimensions making it a bit bigger than Venue but smaller than Creta.
As of now, Hyundai Kona faces no competition, as there is no E-SUV. We expect the prices to range between 25-30 Lakhs (ex-showroom). By later this year, it will face competition from the upcoming MG eZS SUV.
Stay tuned for our first drive review as we will be driving the Hyundai Kona next week.
