MG Motors is planning a hatchback for India, but not in the near future. It could be the fourth car from the manufacturer in our market.
MG Motors just made its India debut with the Hector SUV, pricing it from Rs 12.18 Lakhs to Rs 16.88 Lakhs (ex-showroom). That’s not the only car that the manufacturer will bring to India.
ET reports that MG is planning 4-5 cars for India, including the Hector. The remaining ones in the list include a 7-seater Hector, a sub-compact SUV, an EV and a hatchback as well.
Rajeev Chaba, president of MG Motors India, disclosed to ET that it is being considered. He said, “Absolutely, it is on the agenda. There have been some conversations in this regards, and it may be possible in the next three years.”

As we all know, the hatchback segment is booming currently with different segments of hatchback available. There are entry-level, compact, compact premium and premium models.
Reports say that MG 3 might be the hatchback planned for the Indian market. It is a premium hatchback and so will compete with the likes of Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo, Toyota Glanza, Maruti Baleno and Honda Jazz.
In the global markets, MG Motors has this hatchback in its second generation. There are chances that an all-new model might first make an appearance in the global markets and later head out to India.
At present, Baleno is the best seller in this segment, followed by Hyundai i20. Glanza was launched recently and as of now, the booking figures are much above our expectations.
