The signature edition of Mahindra Thar is a goodbye to the Thar series until the 2020 Thar comes in. The newer generation is imposing, powerful and sits on a new platform than the earlier one.
The signature edition of Mahindra Thar will launch anytime soon and clear images for the same have been spotted at a dealership. There will be only 700 units of this limited edition Thar and the prices for the same will start from Rs 9.99 lakh.
What’s new in this Thar is the availability of ABS as a safety measure, provision of 15-inch alloy wheels, two exclusive pain schemes – Napoli Black and Aquamarine. The latter has been picked up from the Mahindra Marazzo MPV.
Mahindra Thar Signature Edition is adieu to the Thar series till the new gen comes in next year. For a premium of Rs 40,000, you get 5-spoke alloy wheels, leatherette upholstery with Thar badging, black finish on the grille and brushed silver on the bumper. It also gets decals on the left hand and right-hand side of the body and on the bonnet along with Signature Edition badge on the front fenders.

Under the hood, Mahindra Thar carries the 2.5-litre CRDe turbocharged diesel engine. This motor pulls a total of 105 bhp with 250 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to 5-speed manual transmission and gets four-wheel drive transfer with low and high ratios.
The interiors of the car remain the same with similar dashboard design, instrument cluster and no infotainment system. The only change is the leather upholstery with signature badges on near the headrests. Overall, the limited edition only gets cosmetic changes.
Furthermore, Mahindra has been testing the new Thar for quite a while now. It will sit on a completely revamped platform with new ladder-on-frame chassis. The upcoming Thar will be bolder and made available in different wheelbase size. A 3-door and 5-door version can be expected with soft top and hard top. It will have larger wheel arches and new suspension for long journeys.

The interiors are the same which will see a major upgrade with new dashboard design, instrument cluster and the addition of a touchscreen infotainment system. It will host Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as connectivity features. We can also expect a multi-function steering wheel and power windows once the new Thar rolls in.
The powertrain for the 2020 Thar will use a new2.0-litre BS-VI turbocharged diesel engine. The power figures can be anywhere around 120 bhp to 140 bhp and it will come with a 6-speed manual transmission. The prices will be a little premium than the current Thar.
