The new Yamaha R25 that was spotted recently, will reportedly get a 3-cylinder 250cc engine. It will then go against the likes of Kawasaki ZX-25R.
Yamaha R25 has been spied testing outside India, once again. The new-gen quarter litre motorcycle comes in the south-east Asian markets and is very popular over there. Actually, the Indonesian market gets most of the Yamaha global products.
The latest spy shots show that it gets a slightly revised front portion. The dual projector headlamps and USD forks have been kept the same. The premium suspension setup does not come in Yamaha’s India lineup.
International media reports suggest that the new Yamaha R25 might use a 3-cylinder engine, instead of a twin-cylinder. The spy shots are not able to show the engine layout.

Currently, it comes with a 249cc liquid-cooled inline twin-cylinder engine, that produces 36 BHP and 23.6 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.
On the other hand, Kawasaki is also going to update the ZX-250R. It will get a four-cylinder engine, getting a much bigger edge than its rivals. In its current state, it produces 39 BHP from the twin-cylinder engine.
The three-cylinder engine from Yamaha is expected to produce around 41-42 BHP and will be more refined at higher RPMs. Similarly, its rival also includes CBR250RR, which produces 38.7 BHP.

In India, we get the bigger version or Yamaha R25. We have the Yamaha R3, which also gets an inline-twin cylinder engine, producing 42 BHP. The R3 has also been spied testing, and is expected to get a facelift soon.
The new Yamaha R3 will get Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system from the R15 V3. Further, it will get an updated engine, with slightly higher power figures. Many cosmetic upgrades will also make its way onboard.
Coming back to the Yamaha R25, it is expected to be seen in a facelifted avatar, sometime in 2020. The bike will not be launched in India anytime, as we have the R3.
