MG Motors is finally launching its first product, Hector, tomorrow. The British legacy will enter the Indian market with the premium mid-size SUV that will take on the likes on Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500, Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The prices for the MG Hector are expected to be in between Rs 11 lakh to Rs 18 lakh.
Yes, the massive 5-seater SUV is likely to undercut the prices of the Tata Harrier, which is already the best selling premium SUV in its segment. The prices for the MG Hector will be placed in such a way so it grabs the attention of the masses and also rivals the competition.
MG Hector is locally manufactured at its Halol plant which ensures a competitive price tag. Although these prices may be introductory, for what’s its worth, it is also targeting Hyundai Creta since the base trim, petrol for the SUV is expected to launch at Rs 11 lakh and offers more features than other cars in its segment.

MG Hector is available in four trims, Style, Super Smart and Sharp, all of which are available in both petrol and diesel engines. Also, there is a 48V mild-hybrid petrol engine too. One can book the Hector via dealers or through e-booking at a token amount of Rs 50,000 which is fully refundable.
The powertrain includes three engine options, a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor, a 2.0-litre turbocharged FCA sourced diesel engine and a 1.5-litre petrol with segment first 48-V mild hybrid. The transmission includes a six-speed manual gearbox for the diesel and petrol hybrid while the petrol engine is made available with the six-speed dual clutch transmission too.
The FCA sourced diesel engine is the same which powers in Jeep Compass and Tata Harrer. However, it is re-tuned now and produces 173 bhp with 350 Nm of torque. The petrol engine offers 143 bhp with a peak torque of 250 Nm.
MG Hector promises some first in segment features like a large 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment unit which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets i-SMART car technology which allows the user to operate about 50 app connected features. It also boasts a huge panoramic sunroof, 8-Color Ambient Lighting, powered tailgate, floating turn indicators, heated ORVM, front parking sensors and more.

Safety features onboard include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, all four tyres disc brakes and more. The higher trims also see ESP with Traction Control, ISOFIX Child seats, Three-point seatbelt and Hill Hold Control.
