Mahindra XUV500 BS-VI is likely to come with a new engine and with more power of up to 185 bhp.
With many automakers shifting their focus to bring in BS-VI compliance vehicles, Mahindra will also join the race for upgrading their diesel engines line-up and discontinue the smaller diesel motor which comes with KUV100. Fresh images of Mahindra XUV500 BS-VI has been spied with BS-VI badging on the fuel lid.
For starters, the car does look identical to the ongoing model, however, the changes can be seen under the hood which is expected to carry a new powerful diesel motor. It is because the next generation, Mahindra XUV500, will be based on 2019 SsangYong Korando which packs a new 2.0-litre engine.
Post-BS-VI norms, it is expected that the 2.2-lire mHawk diesel engine from Mahindra lineup will be replaced with a new 2.0-litre engine which will be available in three states of tune. So upgrading the current 2.2-litre engine of Mahindra will not be fruitful as it is reaching its end cycle.

The power figures for the Mahindra XUV500 BS-VI are likely to stay up at 185 bhp from the current 155 bhp. We expect a significant increase in torque too with the current being limited to 360 Nm. Reports also suggest that the new 2.0-litre diesel engine is 80 kg lighter than the 2.2-litre mHawk one which is powered in TUV300 Plus, Scorpio and the XUV500.
The new engine will be seen on the upcoming Thar too but with different power figures. It will be showcased in the 2020 Auto Expo. The all-new Mahindra Thar is based on a new platform and even carries basic safety features like ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX, seat belt reminders and high-speed alert system as standard.
