With the Tata Altroz Unveil in mid-July, it will be Tata’s first product in the highly competitive and rather crowded premium hatchback segment.
Tata Motors is all set to unveil the Altroz hatchback in the country in mid-July. The Tata Altroz has already been unveiled internationally at the Geneva Motor Show, earlier this year and the India-spec model does not seem to be very different visually. The Tata Altroz has also been spotted testing several times in India, sometimes even undisguised, and Tata even released a teaser video of the Altroz undergoing various tests a couple of days ago.
There’s certainly a lot of hype and excitement around Tata’s new car. This is of course Tata’s first product in the premium hatchback segment. This segment has been getting quite crowded, the latest entrant being the Glanza and now there will also be the Altroz joining the fleet.
The Altroz sure looks like a handsome car. It carries the Impact 2.0 design language that we first saw with the Harrier. The face is dominated by a large grille with the headlamps sweeping out towards the sides. And by latest trends in car design in the country, it has another lamp cluster incorporated in the bumper and it makes for a rather smart looking face. The sides are beautifully sculpted with sharp lines and a rising window line. It is from the rear where the Altroz probably looks the best with the multi-layered design and gloss black portions.
On the interiors, it will be very well equipped too. We have already seen the interior design from the Geneva Motor Show edition and it feature a floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto like in the Nexon. There will band of switches for the audio controls and climate controls below it. The instrument will get a large MID, just like the Harrier. It will also feature keyless entry and go, 16-inch rims, a flat-bottom steering wheel, automatic climate control and body-coloured bezels around the A/C vents.

As for the powertrains, the Tata Altroz will have three engine options. There will be a 1.2L, turbocharged petrol motor from the Nexon that produces 102PS and 140Nm of torque. There will also be a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 85PS and 114 Nm of torque. As for the diesel, it will be 1.5L, turbocharged diesel engine used in the Nexon, but in a lower state of tune. The petrol engines will have the options of both manual and automatic transmissions while the diesel will come only with a manual transmission.
