The 2019 BMW S1000RR gets a host of updates. Its more powerful and lighter and gets a host of electronic aids. Also, it looks sexier than ever.
The next-gen 2019 BMW S1000RR is all slated for its launch in India on June 27. This superbike was first introduced in 2009 and it completely changed how people conceived the liter-class supersport motorcycles. It has received several updates over the years and this new motorcycle was first shown at the EICMA 2018. With this new generation, BMW has squeezed more power from the engine, added more electronic features and also made it lighter.
The 2019 BMW S1000RR continues with the same 999 cc, 4-stroke, 16-valve DOHC inline-four engine. However, the engine now develops 207 hp at 13,500 rpm, which is around 8 bhp more than the outgoing model. The torque figure remains the same at 113 Nm at 11,000 rpm. The engine is liquid-cooled and fuel injected as well and is mated to a 6-speed constant mesh transmission and comes with electric start. The bike also gets a up/down quickshifter for seamless gearshifts.
The engine has also been updated with BMW’s ShiftCam technology which is used on the intake side to control valve timing and lift. It is essentially a variable valve timing (VVT) mechanism that helps deliver superior performance at varying levels of acceleration.
The 2019 BMW S1000RR comes with updated electronic nannies as well. It now features a six-axis IMU which is a fly-by-wire technology that adds more reliability to the cornering ABS and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC). The motorcycle is also equipped with four riding modes – Road, Rain, Dynamic and Race – which gives riders more versatility and better control is changing riding conditions and environment. All of this can be accessed via a new 6.5-inch full-TFT display.

The motorcycle has been made much lighter than before which is one of the biggest updates. It has a curb weight of only 197 kg which is 11 kg lighter than the outgoing model. If you are opting for the top-spec M-variant, the motorcycle gets even lighter at 193.5 kg. This reduction in weight has been achieved through the use of lightweight materials in the chassis and the WSBK-inspired swingarm. Other key changes include Hayes brakes that replace the Brembo units and Marzocchi suspension that replaces the Sachs suspension.

In the international markets, the BMW S1000RR comes in three trims – Standard, Sport and M model. In India, the Standard bike will be a little more expensive than the outgoing model and will be priced around Rs. 18.05 lakhs. We do not know if the Sport model will be brought to India, but if it comes, it will be around Rs. 2 lakh more than the standard variant. As for the top-spec M-version, it will likely be priced around Rs 25 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
