2100 units of Toyota Glanza have been dispatched to dealerships in May 2019. The exact sales figures will come next month, but it looks like a decent start.
Toyota launched the new Glanza last week, as its first premium hatchback in India. As per the global partnership between Suzuki and Toyota, the latter will borrow Suzuki’s cars, platforms and engines. Suzuki will use Toyota’s electric and hybrid technologies.
Prior to the launch, a total of 2100 units of Toyota Glanza had been dispatched to dealerships. These are not the sales figures but seems like a decent start for the manufacturer.
So, the Glanza is basically a rebadged Maruti Baleno. That’s why you get the same styling just with the ‘Toyota’ badging on the front grille, alloy wheels and the tail portion. The engines also remain the same.

Glanza uses a 1.2 Litre Petrol engine, that produces 83 BHP and 113 Nm of torque. It also gets lithium-ion battery, making it a mild-hybrid. This engine then produces 90 BHP and 113 Nm of torque.
The naturally aspirated petrol unit is available with an option of a 5-speed MT and CVT gearbox. The mild-hybrid engine only comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Both the variants are available with manual as well as CVT gearbox.
Features onboard include Automatic Climate Control, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED Projector headlamps, Steering Mounted audio controls, rear defogger, tilt and telescopic steering adjustment, etc.

Sadly, it is not the most safety features equipped in the segment, just like the Yaris is. Glanza comes with dual airbags, ABS, EBD, Speed Alert System, Seat Belt Reminder and Rear Parking Sensors as standard. Parking camera comes on the top-spec V variant.
The prices of Toyota Glanza start off from Rs 7.29 Lakhs to Rs 8. 90 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). This is the introductory price, which might increase in the near future. In terms of prices, Glanza undercuts the Baleno by a considerable margin.
