At a press briefing held at the Twin Ring Motegi Racing Circuit on the eve of the Tokyo Motor Show, Honda finally unveiled its new engine line-up. The manufacturer has unveiled five new direct injection petrol engines ranging from a new 660 CC to the flagship 3.5 Liter V6.

A lot was criticism was coming along the latest models owing to their not so impressive fuel economy and as an answer they have launched a new line-up which is committed to delivering better power and fuel economy both. For global markets like North America, the company will introduce a new 1.5 Liter, 1.8 Liter, a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder as well as a 3.5 Liter V6 engines.
The result of these new gen engine on 2012 Honda Civic is that it shows a 10 percent improvement in fuel economy and a 5 percent increase in power.
The new direct injection V6 will replace both the 3.6 and 3.7 Liter engines but will incorporate the best of both including a cylinder deactivation system. As far as the Indian line-up is concerned we can expect power output revision which are as follows:
- 1.8 Liter i-VTEC powering the Honda Civic to deliver 148 BHP-180 Nm compared to current 140 BHP-173.5 Nm
- 2.4-liter i-VTEC powering Honda Accord and Honda CR-V to deliver 181 BHP-240 Nm compared to current 185BHP-221 Nm
- 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 engine powering Honda Accord V6 to develop 310 BHP-360 Nm compared to current 250 BHP-335 Nm
We will see a global launch of these engines during 2012 after which we can expect them to arrive in India as well.
