Toyota has already commenced bookings of the Glanza just after the launch yesterday and they say deliveries will begin from this week itself.
Toyota finally launched the much awaited Glanza yesterday at a special introductory price of Rs. 7.22 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The Glanza is essentially a rebadged Baleno that would be sold through Toyota dealerships. This is the first product in India as part of the global partnership between Toyota and Suzuki. With the Glanza, Toyota also marks its entry in the premium hatchback segment.
Toyota announced yesterday that they have officially started accepting bookings for the Glanza for a token amount of Rs. 11,000 and that they will give the delivery of the car within this week itself. The Glanza has been launched in two variants – G and V – corresponding to the Alpha and Zeta trims of the Baleno. The Top-spec V trim with the CVT gearbox has been priced at Rs. 8.90 lakh, ex-showroom.
Sadly, well for some, there is no option of a diesel engine with the Glanza. All the other competitors in this segment have both, a diesel and a petrol engine. However, what the Glanza does get is a BS-VI compliant petrol engine already. The 1.2L, Dualjet engine with a mild-hybrid motor, making 89 bhp and 113 Nm is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and is exclusive only to the G trim.

The other 1.2L, K12B petrol engine which will pump out 82 bhp and 113 Nm is offered on both the trims. This engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 7-step CVT gearbox. The Toyota Glanza’s mileage is 21.01 kmpl for the V MT trim, 23.87 kmpl for the G MT (Mild-Hybrid) trim and 19.56 kmpl for the CVT, which are the same for the corresponding variants of the Baleno.
Being offered only in two trims, it comes pretty well equipped already. It comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system called the ‘Toyota Smart Playcast’ with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. This by the way is the first time that any Toyota in India is getting Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. It also gets a multi-information display on the instrument panel, LED projector headlamps and keyless entry.

On the safety front, the Glanza has dual airbags as standard along with anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, seatbelt reminder, rear parking sensors and ISOFIX mounts for child seats. Toyota is also offering class leading warranty on the Glanza. With a very competitive pricing, and good value for what it offers, Toyota can hope that the Glanza will bring some good fortune for them.
