That’s the fastest time taken by any car to cross the 6 lakh mark in India. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno also remains the best selling premium hatchback in the segment
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has sold 6 lakh units in a record 44 months which is the fastest time taken by a car to reach the 6 lakh units sales milestone. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno received a great reception right from the start and even now, it continues to generate great volumes for Maruti Suzuki.
Just very recently, Maruti update the Baleno with some exterior styling changes which now gives the Baleno a far more younger look, if you thought that the Baleno has a rather reserved and boring design before the facelift. Maruti also updated the Baleno with the next generation Smart Hybrid technology in the DualJet and the Dual VVT engines in the Baleno, which also makes it a first in its segment.
On the interiors, however, there hasn’t been any major change since its introduction. Maruti just introduced a couple of new colors for the seat fabrics with this recent update and apart from that, it largely remains the same. It still comes well equipped with a 17.8 cm touchscreen infotainment system, a multi information display and also with the convenience of a CVT gearbox.

Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “Baleno is India’s most preferred premium hatchback. Continuous alignment with customer’s expectations and desires along with periodic upgrades in terms of technology, have kept Baleno in the lead in customer’s decision making. The milestone of 6 Lakh unit cumulative sales in a record time of just 44 months clearly reflects Baleno’s popularity. We thank our customers for their continued support that has helped Baleno to create this industry benchmark of fastest 6 lakh sales milestone.”
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has a market share of over 27% in the A2+ segment. Introduced in 2015, the Baleno has not only been the best selling car in the segment but is in fact, one of the best selling cars across all segments in the country. The Baleno is sold exclusively as a Nexa product and has also recorded a growth of 11.5% in 2018-19. The Baleno was also the first car in the segment to boast a BS-VI emission norms compliant engine.

The Baleno will likely continue to dominate the premium hatchback segment for some more time to come. Given there’s fierce competition in this segment from the Hyundai i20, the Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo, it certainly will not be an easy job. To make matters even more interesting, there’s a Toyota-badged Baleno coming very soon and it would be interesting to see how the market reacts with this new player in the field. Also, the Tata Altroz is due in some time and it goes in this same segment. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno sure would have a tough time to keep up.
