As part of the new partnership, the Toyota will receive the Glanza completely built at a Maruti Suzuki plant, only to sell it through their dealerships.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor is all geared up for the launch of the first car from the Toyota-Maruti partnership – the Glanza – on the 6th of June. Speaking to a senior Toyota official before that, we have been told that the Toyota Glanza will be manufactured completely at Maruti Suzuki’s manufacturing plant.
Currently, Maruti Suzuki has two manufacturing plants in India – one in Gurgaon and the other one in Manesar. However, we do not have any information on exactly which plant will manufacture the Glanza. Toyota will be receiving the completely built models from Maruti Suzuki, only to sell them through their dealerships.
The Glanza – read Baleno – is the first car to be shared between the two brands as part of their global partnership in sharing models. Maruti Suzuki will be benefiting from Toyota’s expertise on hybrid technology whereas Toyota will be using chassis and powertrains manufactured by Maruti Suzuki, as has been agreed upon by the deal.
Coming back to the Glanza, it looks exactly the similar to its cousin, the Baleno, except for some changes to the face. The grille has been slightly redesigned and features two horizontal slats with the Toyota badging in the middle. Even the alloy designs remain the same. At the rear, there sits a Toyota badge instead of the Suzuki badge and the Glanza nameplate.

The interiors also remain the same as the Baleno. The all black theme, the infotainment system, the instrument cluster, all remain the same except for the Toyota badging on the steering wheel. Toyota will however put its own infotainment software in the infotainment system.
The Glanza will be powered by a 1.2L, VVT, naturally aspiarted, four-cylinder petrol engine which will churn out 82 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. The engine too has been sourced from Maruti Suzuki and has been made BS-VI compliant to meet the new emission norms. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a CVT gearbox might be in the cards too.

The Toyota Glanza is expected to be priced from around Rs. 7.0 lakhs to Rs. 7.7 lakhs (ex-showroom). When launched, the Glanza will take on the likes of the Hyundai i20, the Honda Jazz, the Volkswagen Polo and its own sister, the Mariti Suzuki Baleno. This premium hatchback segment has got quite congested over the years and it would be interesting to see these cars fight it out.
