Following BMW and Mercedes, Audi too has joined the bandwagon to make coupe SUVs and and their latest offering will be the Audi Q3 Sportback.
The trend of the coupe SUVs was first started by the BMW X6 and then other manufacturers soon followed suite. Mercedes now has a coupe sibling for each of its SUVs and BMW too had to give into the competition by launching their own coupe SUVs for each of its X SUVs. How could Audi be left behind?
Audi also joined the bandwagon with the launch of the gigantic Q8 which then went on to become the flagship in Audi’s SUV range. Audi, has since then shown interest in building a coupe SUV for the Q3 and now, they have finally confirmed that it is indeed coming. The Audi Q3 Sportback will make its first public debut in July, this year.
The Audi Q3 Sportback will be among the seven new SUVs that the German car maker has lined up for this year. Audi shared such plans at its 130th Annual General Meeting where they also mentioned that they would be organizing a dedicated event for the launch of the Q3 Sportback as there are no major Auto Shows lined up during that time of the year. Later, the Audi Q3 Sportback will also be showcased at the Frankfurt International Motor Show that is due in September.

There has been no official details of the Q3 Sportback yet, but it will certainly be based on the new generation Q3 and will also be drawing design cues from the same. It will also take design cues from its bigger sibling, the Q8 Coupe SUV as it will be sporting a similar coupe roofline but will certainly not be as steeply raked as we have seen in the A5 and A7 Sportbacks. The face of the Q3 Sportback will remain largely the same as the standard Q3 with the same massive grille and sharp headlights but the grille could be finished in piano black for some added sportiness.

Mechanically, the Q3 Sportback will carry over the same powertrains from the standard Q3. That means there will be a 2.0-litre TDI diesel and 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine on offer. Audi may also consider the 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine for the Q3 Sportback.
