Skoda Karoq is expected to come in two petrol and three diesel options when launched in India
Skoda Karoq is all set to launch in India by mid-2020. The small SUV carries the same design structure as that of Kodiaq and will come in 5-seater option. It fills the gap of Yeti and looks more premium and conventional in looks.
The premium SUV is based on the MQB’s platform by the Volkswagen group. The same platform is shared by vehicles like Skoda Octavia, Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq. That said the new platform provides roomier cabin along with the reduced overall weight of the car. It thus happens to provide lower production cost for the VW group which allows them to sell vehicles at a lower cost.
Skoda Karoq will feature the ‘VarioFlex’ seats as an option like seen in Yeti. The advantage is, one can increase the boot space from 479 litres to 588 litres by sliding the rear seats forward or backwards. The interiors design of the Koraq will be similar to other Skoda cars.

Like, it will feature a large touchscreen infotainment system which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, multi-function steering wheel, dual-zone climate control among other features. Expect the interiors to be in all-black theme or it can also follow the much popular beige and black combination.
Globally the Skoda Karoq comes with five engine specifications, two petrol and three diesel engines. The petrol engines are a 1-litre TSI uni churning 114bhp with 174Nm of torque or a 1.5-litre TSI producing 147bhp with 250Nm of peak torque. Both the engines are expected to be available in both manual and automatic transmission.

The diesel engine includes 1.6-litre motor generating 115bhp with 250Nm of torque. A larger 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel motor is also available in two states of tune. One produces 150bhp with 340Nm of torque like seen in the elder sibling, Kodiaq. Another one is a 187bhp with 400Nm of peak torque. This is mated to the 7-speed automatic transmission while others are mated to 6-speed manual gearbox.
Once launched, the Skoda Karoq will compete against the Hyundai Tucson, Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Mahindra XUV500 and Jeep Compass. Expect the price range to be in between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 21 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
