The sales report for April has come and we see that Honda Activa 5G has reported 38% Y-o-Y loss in the sales. We analyze the possible reasons here.
Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India is one of the largest two-wheeler manufacturers in India, and the biggest brand in the scooter business. As we all know, Honda Activa is the best-selling scooter in India.
The month of April has been bad for HMSI. Not only are the sales down, but its popular models have also experienced a serious downfall. The sales of Activa 5G have fallen down by nearly 38%.
In April 2018, Honda sold 3.4 Lakh units of the Activa. A year later, it went down to 2.11 Lakh units. It is still the best selling scooter in India, but we have rarely seen the sales of Activa going down by this level.

The primary reason for this could be the growing competition. Honda started selling this scooter when barely 2-3 of them were available in the market. Also, it was one of the earliest gear-less scooters in India.
Currently, the Indian market boasts of more than 30 different two-wheelers, ranging from 100cc to 150cc. Interestingly, India is the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the world.
In Activa’s current price range of Rs 55,000 to 60,000, you can find many options. More feature equipped and better looking scooters like Maestro Edge 125, TVS Jupiter, Ntorq 125 and more are present.

Meanwhile, Honda Activa is set to get a major update in the form of 6G. It has been spotted testing with telescopic forks at the front and a digi-analogue speedometer. There are chances that it could look similar to the Activa 125.
The new Activa is rumoured to launch around Diwali 2019. If this update comes on the scooter, it might bolster the sales much more. Most of the Activa buyers complain about its unit linked suspension setup, which might be replaced.
