We pit the upcoming Hyundai Venue against the newly launched Mahindra XUV300 to see who fares the best on paper.
The Hyundai Venue is slated for its launch in India tomorrow. It comes across as a sensational product with its head turning styling and features that are loaded to the brim. The Hyundai Venue goes against the likes of the Vitara Brezza and the Mahindra XUV300 in the sub-compact SUV segment. This segment is getting populated by the day and here we take a closer look at how the Venue fares against the XUV300.
The XUV300 is also a brand new product that was introduced just this February. It has already received an overwhelming response and the Venue would have a tough job fighting against the XUV300.
Hyundai Venue vs Mahindra XUV300 – Engine Specification
The Venue has three-engine options – 2 petrol and 1 diesel engine. The Mahindra XUV300 on the other hand has only two engine options – 1 diesel and 1 petrol.
Diesel Engine Specification
The 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine churns out 84bhp with 220Nm of torque in the Venue whereas the Mahindra XUV300 is available with a 1.5-L, turbocharged, 4-cylinder diesel engine which churns out 115bhp and 300Nm of torque. Clearly, the XUV300 is ahead with its numbers.

Petrol Engine Specification
The Hyundai Venue has two petrol engine options – a 1.0L, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine which generates a maximum power of 120 bhp with 172 Nm of torque. The other is a 1.2L, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine which churns out 83bhp with 115Nm of torque.
The XUV300 is powered by a 1.2L, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine which produces 110bhp and 200Nm of torque. The XUV300 sits is between the both Hyundai engines in terms of power but is ahead from both of them with its torque of 200Nm.

The turbocharged petrol motor is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as well as 7-speed DCT. For the naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol motor, it is available with 5-speed manual gearbox. The XUV300 is only available with a 6-speed manual.

In terms of dimensions, the Hyundai Venue is simply the same length as of Mahindra XUV300. However, the Venue is shorter and less wide than the XUV300. However, the Mahindra in spite of being the same length as the Hyundai, has a longer wheelbase.

Hyundai Venue vs Mahindra XUV300 – Design
In terms of design, both cars look quite attractive. Hyundai Venue sports a split headlight design which looks refreshing. It has perfect proportions and looks quite premium as well. The XUV300, considering it is from Mahindra, is a surprisingly good looking car too. The face particularly looks the best with the horizontal DRLs and quite a smart looking headlamp and grille cluster.
On the interiors, both cars are very well loaded with all the convenience features and the dashboard layout of both cars are pretty appealing too. Just like the exteriors, the interiors of the XUV300 is very well designed and feels a premium compact SUV with good quality of materials used.

However, the Hyundai Venue packs some more features like the large 8-inch infotainment system with the Blue link technology system. It means the car will get in-built apps, maps and navigation services and voice assistant, some of which the XUV300 misses out on.
It also gets wireless charging, keyless entry, push-button start, air purifier and more. The car also gets an eSIM based connectivity. On the interiors, the Venue clearly has the edge over the XUV300 with better appeal and features.

It would be really interesting to see how the Hyundai Venue stands against Mahindra XUV300 in some time to come in the market. The Venue has been introduced at a starting price of just Rs. 6.5 lakhs (ex-showroom) and it really undercuts the competition as the XUV300 has a starting price of Rs. 7.9 lakhs. It could very soon be the best selling SUV in the segment.
