The next-gen Mahindra Thar will include a host of updates including a new engine, new interiors, more features and revised styling on the exterior as well.
There has been rumors recently that the next-gen Mahindra Thar could get an automatic gearbox. The new-generation Mahindra Thar has already been spotted testing several times at the beginning of this year and it will most likely debut at the Auto Expo 2020.
The next-gen Thar will reportedly be based on a new advanced platform. From the spy images too, the SUV certainly seems to have grown in size and is now wider than before. The test mules seems to be wearing a body only for testing purposes but the production spec model will have a lot more going on with it.
The Jeep inspired 7-slot grille will certainly continue with the two classic round headlamps on either side. However, this time around, you can expect them to be projector units and might have LED DRLs as well. The front wheel arches have been positioned quite high. However, the production version is expected to have a cleaner design or this could be a indicator of larger tires as well.
At the rear, the Thar will continue to wear the soft-top canopy covering the roof, rear and side sections. The tail lamps also look like temporary units and the production version can be expected to have an updated set of tail-lamps. The Thar will also continue with the side-facing bench seats staying true to its off-road SUV purposes.

However, the biggest change will be to the interior of the Jeep. The next-gen Mahindra Jeep will receive an all-new dashboard which will feature an infotainment system for the first time. There will be revisions to the instrument cluster and to the seats as well which will come with better side bolstering. Expect the new Mahindra Thar to have a much premium and appealing interior than it has now.

There has been no details on the engine of the new Thar. However, being launched sometime later this year or early next year, the next-gen Mahindra Thar will certianly come with a BS-VI compliant engine. It could be a 2.0L, 4-cylinder diesel engine with a manual gearbox as standard which is likely to churn out 140 bhp. Also, the automatic transmission will be offered as an option and it also comes better loaded in terms of safety this time around.
