The MG Hector’s production has already commenced at its Halol plant in Gujarat. The plant was earlier used by GM India, but now is owned and operate by MG Motors. The MG Hector sits is a highly competitive mid-size SUV segment that is currently dominated by the Jeep Compass, the Tata Harrier and the Mahindra XUV500. Well, the Hector’s size sure does make it look like it belongs to a segment above though.
The MG Hector was officially debuted in India on the 15th of May, at a gala event in Mumbai. The day also marked the official opening of all their dealerships across India. Currently, MG Motors has 130 touch points strategically situated across the entire nation. However, they plan to have as many as 250 customer touch points by September, this year to be able to widen their customer base.
One such showroom of MG Motors is now open in Jalandhar, where a display unit of the Hector SUV has arrived. Individuals are now walking up the dealerships to check out the car in flesh and a certain Youtube channel named ‘Car News – By HotShotInfo’ has recently uploaded a walk around video of the new Hector SUV from a dealer showroom.
The Hector even comes with a badge at the rear which reads ‘Internet Inside’ as connectivity seems to be new norm in the automotive industry. This already gives the Hector a competitive advantage as its the first SUV in the segment to offer advanced connectivity with its i-Smart system.

The system uses an eSim which allows for internet connectivity in the car and allows the users access to a host of fancy things like weather forecast, real-time traffic updates, geo fencing, remote location, real-time navigation, and emergency response. It is also the first SUV in the segment to offer 5G connectivity system. This system has been developed with collaboration from companies like Microsoft, Cisco and Unlimit.
The Hector is also one of the best looking SUVs in the segment. The size itself is quite intimidating in the first place and will easily dwarf all its rivals. Look past the size and you will notice other premium features like the top mounted LED DRLs, bumper mounted LED headlamps and tail lamps, roof mounted spoiler, faux silver skid plates on both the front and rear, a large grille, diamond cut 17 inch alloy wheels and LED tail lamps.

On the inside, the Hector features Volvo-like vertically mounted 10.3 inch touch screen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, 360 degree parking camera and the list really goes on. Fit and finish of materials are top notch as well.
The MG Hector will be powered by two engines – a petrol and a diesel. Further, there will be a 48V mild-hybrid variant which will come with the petrol engine. There’s the 1.5L, 143 horsepower, turbo petrol, and a 2.0L, 170 horsepower, FCA sourced diesel engine and a 48V mild-hybrid version of the 1.5 turbo-petrol unit. Transmission duties will be taken care by a 6-speed manual in the diesel and a 7-speed DCT or the 6-speed manual with the petrol.
