Honda intends to simplify the manufacturing process with the new scalable platform and achieve 100% capacity utilization of all its plants worldwide.
Honda has announced the reveal of a new scalable platform in 2020 that would debut with a new model which hasn’t been named yet. Honda has revealed very few details about this all-new platform apart from the fact that 70% of the platform’s components can be shared across various models.
Honda has said that with the shift to the new scalable platform, they would be saving up to 30% man hours which will then allow them to focus more on the development of next-gen technologies.
The carmaker has also said that it is looking to streamlining its entire product portfolio by the year 2025 in an attempt to make the manufacturing process more efficient in all production facilities across the globe. The carmaker has said that its global model line-up which includes the likes of the Jazz, Civic, Accord, HR-V and CR-V, would account for only a third of its products by 2025 and that the number of variants for each of these models would also be trimmed.

The carmaker aims to simplify the production allocation of its models at its various plants across the globe to be able to achieve 100% capacity utilization of all its plants worldwide.
Meanwhile, for the Indian market, Honda is prepping to launch the all-new HR-V later this year. This new SUV will sit below the CR-V in the company’s model lineup and will share its engine and gearbox options with th Civic. When launched in India, the HR-V will take on the likes of the Jeep Compass, the Harrier and the upcoming MG Hector.

On another note, Honda has also announced that they would continue to sell diesel engines in India even after the BS-VI emission norms come into effect from April, 2020. The two existing diesel engines – 1.5L diesel and the 1.6L diesel – will be upgraded to meet the new emission norms. Honda has also been focusing on hybrid and all-electric technology off late.
