Toyota has revealed only a teaser of their upcoming hatchback, titled the Glanza. The Toyota Glanza is however only a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Baleno as part of their new joint venture. Several spy shots have been surfacing on the internet for some while now and they reveal that the Glanza looks exactly similar to the donor car except for a slightly redesigned grille.
The Glanza gets a shinier radiator grille with two horizontal slats as opposed to Baleno’s black grille. This has been done to keep developing and manufacturing costs as low as possible. Elsewhere, the car wears Toyota badges instead of Suzuki’s and ‘Baleno’ has been changed to ‘Glanza’. The rest of the car looks exactly the same and so does the interior.
The Glanza will be sold in two trim levels – a decently well equipped ‘G’ trim equivalent to Baleno’s Zeta trim and a fully loaded ‘V’ trim which is equivalent to the Baleno’s Alpha trim. Maruti Suzuki has already shipped 364 units of the re-badged Toyota Glanza in the first lot to Toyota Kirloskar Motor last month.

There wouldn’t be any mechanical changes to the car either. Toyota will equip the Glanza with the inexpensive K12M 1.2L VVT petrol engine from Maruti. The engine is a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder unit which churns out 82 Bhp at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 4,200 rpm. The engine was recently updated to be BS-VI compliant and returns a fuel economy of 21 kilometers to a liter when paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox in the Baleno or 19.5 kilometers to a liter when paired with the CVT. The same transmission options are expected to continue in the Glanza and fuel economy figures are expected the same as well.
The Glanza will go on sale on the 6th of June with prices expected to start from Rs 7 lakhs. The Glanza will compete against the likes of the Hyundai i20, the Honda Jazz, and of course the Maruti Baleno.
