Yamaha SZ-RR is yet to be updated with ABS, as other models have been updated for the safety regulations. Does it indicate that the bike might be stopped?
Yamaha SZ-RR was launched back in 2014 as a 150cc commuter motorcycle. Being one of the cheapest one in its segment, it still is the least selling 150cc motorcycle. As we all know, the best selling one is the Pulsar 150.
Yamaha has confirmed that it will focus on expanding its premium motorcycle offerings in India. It’s premium range starts from FZ and Fazer motorcycles, which are again, 150cc bikes.
However, Saluto and Saluto RX have already been updated with Unified Braking System (UBS) for the safety norms. That leaves the SZ-RR without ABS, since its a 150cc motorcycle.

Reports suggest that Yamaha SZ-RR might not receive an update. As per the competition, it was supposed to be equipped with a single-ABS setup. It is available with a front disc brake as standard.
SZ-RR is currently priced at Rs 69,000 (ex-showroom), being cheaper than Honda Unicorn 150. With the inclusion of ABS, the prices will further increase by Rs 6500-7000, still making it cheaper than the Unicorn.
In terms of sales, SZ-RR and Hero Achiever 150 are the worst performing motorcycles. Pulsar 150 makes more than 50000 units per month and Unicorn also manages above 20000 units per month,

Yamaha SZ-RR uses a 149cc air-cooled SOHC engine, that produces 12.1 BHP at 7500 RPM and 12.8 Nm at 6000 RPM of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
Features onboard analogue instrument cluster, front disc brake as standard, wide seat, Split grab bars and blacked out alloy wheels.
Suspension is handled by telescopic forks at the front and a swingarm suspension with shock ups at the back. A 245mm disc brake at the front and a 130mm drum brake at the back handling the braking.

Till the next 3-4 years, Yamaha will launch much more premium motorcycles in India, that are curated for performance, better than their competition.
