After a really long wait the 2012 Honda CR-V is finally here. The car has been launched in US and all the details of it are also out. Being a benchmark setting vehicle for the past couple of years, a lot was expected from the 4th generation model and with no surprise it stands upto everybody’s expectations.
The car has been completely reworked on and now features greater body rigidity, lighter suspension components, additional noise insulation and more aerodynamic features including underbody covers and a rear spoiler. Proportion wise the 2012 Honda CR-V is 103.1 inch in wheelbase, 178.3 inches in length, 71.6 inches in width and 65.1 inches in height. Interestingly it is 0.8 inches shorter in length and 1 inch lower in height than the on-going model yet it offers enough room.

Some of the highlighting features of this new avatar on the exterior are the multi-reflector halogen headlights, long full-body taillights, a more aggressive and aerodynamic stance, deeper bodylines and a bolder front with a three step horizontal grille.
CR-V offers a variety of new technologies such as a new audio system with iPhone and USB connectivity, i-MID(multi information display) screen along with steering-wheel mounted controls, a touch screen navigation system, a convenient SMS text messaging function for reading incoming messages aloud through the audio system and also reply to them, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink for hands free calling convenience and a new DVD Rear Entertainment System (RES) with a remote control.

In terms of safety the car is offered with a number of advanced features like:
- Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure
- Pedestrian Injury Mitigation Design
- Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA)
- Traction Control
- Advanced 4-Channel ABS
- Electronic Brake Distribution EBD
- Brake Assist
- Driver and Front Passenger Side Airbags with Front Passenger Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS)

On the technical end the car will be powered by a 2.4L i-VTEC four cylinder engine that produces 185 BHP of max power and 220 Nm of peak torque and is coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is expected to be in the range of 11 to 13 KMPL.
All in all the car has proved to be a great package but we can expect the Indian model to lack a couple of features listed above in order to cut costs. Despite this i believe the car will turn out to be a hit alike its predecessors.
