In terms of engine, the 1.4 litre diesel engine of Verna is low on power and more frugal than the Skoda Rapid however, the 1.6 Litre is much ahead in power and also quite fuel efficient at the same time. Verna offers more choices in the engine as well as transmission front with its offerings.

For the base variant, the Rapid is about Rs. 14,000 cheaper, comes with more powerful engine and has rear AC vents on the plus side. Also Rapid has better handling characteristics the Verna. Verna on the other hand, in its base variants offers lots of features and better mileage, larger tyres. Verna offers front fog lamps, LED turn indicators on outside rear view mirrors, keyless entry with folding key, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, manual transmission shift indicator and Alternator Management system, Integrated 2-Din Audio system with remote control, with Aux-input, CD and USB playback with 4 speaker system with tweeters. So if you want a car with better power and handling, Rapid is better, but if you want oodles of features and a premium interior feel then Verna is a better bet.

If we go one variant higher on the Rapid Sedan, then we get additional features like better interior upholstery, body coloured outside mirrors and door handles, ABS with Brake assist and Driver side airbag, remote control for keyless entry and boot release, height adjustable driver seat, rear arm rest etc. While the Verna 1.4 which is about Rs. 20,000 cheaper still offers some pretty great interiors and exterior features, but lacks safety features like the ABS and driver side airbag. So it’s a pick between safety features and convenience features. Also the engine of Rapid is better and Rapid handles better too.

If we go top end on Rapid Diesel with the Elegance 1.6 and compare it with Verna 1.6 with more powerful engine, the Rapid is about Rs. 30,000 costlier. Rapid additionally offers 15 inch alloy wheels, more chrome on the interiors, dual Airbags at front with ABS and EBD, Integrated Audio system with Aux-input and without USB input, 4 speakers, MMC Support, automatic climate control, dual rear AC vents, electrically adjustable outside mirrors (no turn indicators mounted on them), Multi-information display etc. Verna offers only driver side Airbag with ABS and EBD, rear disk brakes, 15 inch steel wheels, impact sensing door unlock, rear defogger, high gloss black and wood grain interiors, more chrome on interiors, parking sensors, Steering mounted audio and phone control via Bluetooth, iPod connectivity cable, automatic climate control, clean air filter etc. In terms of features, Verna 1.6 base variant is much ahead of Rapid except that Verna has one airbag and Rapid has got two. So it’s a choice between features and handling again. I would leave this choice to you.

Skoda Rapid Elegance 1.6 VS Hyundai Verna RB 1.6 SX

If we go higher on the Verna variants, as there are plenty of variants on Verna Diesel, the Verna SX costs about Rs. 30,000 more. For this difference, Verna offers all safety features like dual Airbags, ABS, rear disk brakes, larger 16 inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth enabled audio system with steering mounted controls etc. The Verna SX is a much better car in terms of features. Again, if you are looking for features, Verna is a better bet here. If you are looking for more affordable car with better handling and lesser features, Rapid is a good pick.

Skoda Rapid Elegance 1.6 VS Hyundai Verna RB 1.6 SX (O) MT and 1.6 SX (O) AT

The SX(O) adds 4 more airbags and leather upholstery to already premium SX but it costs good Rs. 70,000 over the SX. The pricing is 1 Lakh above the pricing of Diesel Rapid top end variant which is way out of league in terms of price comparison. If you want premium features, you have to pay the price premium to justify it. The 4 speed automatic with the diesel automatic will cost another Rs. 70,000 over the SX(O) which is the option which is absent on the Rapid, so if you are looking at the top of the line Diesel, Rapid does not compete with the top two variants of Verna.
