The recently launched Mahindra XUV 300 has quickly jumped to the third spot in the sub-4-meter SUV segment in India, outselling the Ford EcoSport.
The Mahindra XUV 300, launched in India last month, seems to have quickly found the acceptance of the the SUV craving Indian population. The Ssangyong Tivoli based sub-4-meter SUV has jumped to the third spot in its segment behind the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon, pipping the Ford EcoSport to the fourth position. For the month of February 2019, Mahindra dispatched a total of 4,484 units of the XUV300 to its dealerships. On the other hand, Ford dispatched a total of 3,156 units of the EcoSport.
The respective figures for the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon stood at 11,613 and 5,263 units respectively.
The Mahindra XUV 300 was launched in India last month at a starting price of INR 7.9 lakh for the base petrol variant. Its top-spec (optional) diesel trim currently retails in India at a price of INR 11.99 lakh. The XUV 300 is available with petrol as well as diesel engine options in its line-up.

The petrol engine is a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder unit borrowed from the KYV1OO and strapped on with a turbocharger for higher power and torque outputs. In the Mahindra XUV 300, this engine produces 110 BHP of power along with 200 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine, on the other hand, is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder unit capable of churning out 115 BHP of power along with 300 Nm of peak torque.
Both the engines are mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. There is no automatic gearbox on offer as of now. However, Mahindra has started working on an AMT gearbox which is going to launch in India soon.
The petrol derivative of the Mahindra XUV 300 is capable of delivering a mileage of 17 km/l. While the diesel derivative promises to deliver a mileage figure of 20 km/l.

The top-spec variant of the Mahindra XUV 300, which not only competes with the vehicles in its segment but also a segment above, has several segment first features. These include dual-zone climate control, LED projector headlamps, an electric sunroof to name a few.
In addition to working on the AMT iteration of the XUV 300, Mahindra is currently also working on an all-electric version of the same as well. Mahindra has confirmed that the all-electric XUV 300 will launch in India sometime during the year 2020.
