In a shocking turn of events, Bajaj Avenger 160 is reportedly under works. The new engine comes from Pulsar NS160, which will be BS-6 ready.
Last year, Bajaj Avenger 150 was discontinued in the market, which was replaced by Avenger 180. It is also available with 220cc engine capacity in Cruise and Street variants.
Reportedly, Bajaj is planning to launch new Avenger 160 in India. Thrustzone reports that the new cruiser is under works and might be launched with BS-6 ready engines, later this year.
The new Avenger will borrow the engine from Pulsar NS160. While we wait for confirmation from our dealership sources, this would be the fourth new engine that comes on the cruiser.

The Bajaj Avenger 160 will use an oil-cooled SOHC 4-valve 160cc engine, that is capable of producing 15.5 BHP and 14.6 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
On the other hand, Avenger 180 delivers 15.5 BHP and 13.7 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed transmission. Comparing the engine specifications, the 160cc provides more torque.
Also, with a smaller capacity engine, the prices of the cruiser will be reduced further. However, the report also states that the engine will be BS-6 ready, which will in turn increase the prices. So, a combined effect will keep the prices in check.

With this the fuel efficiency will also increase. The current estimated numbers stand at 40 kmpl, which might increase by 3-4 kmpl. The engine capacity stands at 13 Litres, which should give a riding range of nearly 550 kms.
All the other specifications and equipment will remain the same as on Avenger 180. The features will also remain the same which include black alloy wheels, round headlamps, analogue instrument cluster and the low slung seating.
For braking purposes, we expect it to come with front and rear disc brake with a single-channel ABS and Rear Lift-Off protection (RLP).

Bajaj Avenger 160 will compete with the likes of Suzuki Intruder, which is a modern day cruiser. However, seeing the declining sales of Intruder, Avenger will still remain unbeaten.
