The all-electric Maruti Wagon R is expected to arrive in the Indian market sometime during the year 2020 and could become a mass market product.
Maruti Suzuki is going to introduce its first mass-market, all-electric vehicle in India next year. The Indo-Japanese automaker has confirmed the same in 2018 when it began road-testing the prototype of this all-electric on Indian roads. This prototype is based on the Japanese spec Suzuki Wagon R and gets no badging on it as such. Maruti Suzuki has not confirmed as to on which vehicle they are going to base their first all-electric vehicle. That said, it is quite likely that the same is going to be the Wagon R hatchback.
According to a report published in Autocar India, the prices of the all-electric Maruti Wagon R could fall under INR 7 lakh. This price is going to include all the subsidies that this car will incur due to the Government’s FAME scheme. Based on the current structure of the FAME scheme, the on-road prices of the Wagon

Reports state that the range of this all-electric Maruti Wagon R is likely to be around the mark of 200km. If this turns out to be true, then the budget price tag along with decent range can easily establish this vehicle as a segment benchmark. In fact, the same is going to be the only offering in the said price range and could help jump-start the era of budget electric cars in the Indian market. India is soon going to get a host of DC fast charging stations for electric cars. These will promise to charge the car up to 80% in a matter of just 40 mins.

As mentioned before, Maruti Suzuki has not confirmed as to which one of their cars they are going to use as the donner vehicle. Chances are that the same is going to be a Wagon R. However the styling, be it the interiors and the exteriors are going to be quite different from the one seen on the combustion powered derivative of the same.
